Patty Santana, executive Assistant at Pets In Need, nurses and plays with Diane, a 3-week-old male kitten. Pets In Need, an animal adoption center in Redwood City, runs a partnership with the community to rescue abandoned kittens. They take in kittens that are sometimes only hours old and foster them until they are old enough to receive shots and be neutered or spayed. Then they are put up for adoption. This occurs at the 8-week period as long as the kitten weighs at least 2 pounds or more. Pets In Need provides a valuable service, as these kittens are often too young to be cared for at regular animal shelters because the kittens require 24hour attention.
