Hi, My name is Juan Carlos and thank you for visiting my website on smugmug.com. I like to think of my photography style as photojournalistic from a fine art painter’s perspective. I graduated from the Academy of Art University in 2001 with a BFA in illustration. I fell into photography through a series of events that seemed more destiny than my own doing. In a nutshell, I love people, photography is a very social instrument for me, my artistic feeling from fine art painting transfers over into photography seamlessly and I started doing it so much, I just can’t stop!

In my opinion, an artist really isn’t an artist unless he or she is doing it even when not being paid. I put as much passion and love into my paid work as I do my personal work. In each I strive not only for perfection and improvement but also to be unique and thus somehow push the boundaries of art in some way. My mind is always one step ahead of my production; so as to always stay on edge, working diligently to improve.

The biggest key to being a great people photographer is simply to LOVE PEOPLE. All the technical knowledge and best equipment is of little use if a photographer cannot find a way to connect with the person in front of the lens.
